etappes geopend.
Liverpool to Wigan, met 6 sluizen aansluit. |

der Aire and Calder Navigation

to Wigan mit sechs Schleusen anschließt. |

Leeds and Liverpool Canal | 127-mile long broad canal from Leeds to Liverpool
through Yorkshire and Lancashire, England. Together with the mainline
of the Aire and Calder Navigation
it forms a route across the Midlands. The L&L Canal was built
between 1774 and 1816 in several stages. The longer section from Wigan
to Leeds with 85 locks begins at the Aire
& Calder Navigation in Leeds and ends in Wigan where it connects
to the western section Liverpool to Wigan with 6 locks. A number of branches belong to the L&LC, such as a short branch canal in Skipton; the Rufford Branch that links the Canal to the River Ribble via the River Douglas; the Leigh Branch, a link with the Bridgewater Canal in Leigh; the short Stanley Dock Branch between the canal terminus and the Liverpool Docks and the Liverpool Link - a connection between docks -, and finally two arms of the original Lancaster Canal. |
