nahe des Viadukts von Ribblehead beginnt und nach 121 km in die Irische
See bei Lytham mündet. Die unteren acht Kilometer von Preston
bis zur Einmündung des River Douglas
bei Douglas Mouth mit einer Schleuse bei der Preston Marina sind für
Fahrzeuge bis 33m x 10m befahrbar. Ungefähr auf halber Strecke zweigt am Nordufer der Savick Brook (Ribble Link) ab, ein rd. 4,8 km langer Verbindungskanal mit neun Schleusen zwischen River Ribble - und über den Douglas mit dem Leeds and Liverpool Canal - und dem Lancaster Canal. |

River Ribble | tidal river in Lancashire formed by the confluence
of the Gayle Beck and the Cam Beck near the Ribblehead
viaduct, flowing into the Irish Sea
near Lytham. 5.5 miles of it from Preston to the mouth of the River
Douglas at Douglas Mouth are navigable for vessels up to a length
of 100 ft and a beam not exceeding 30 ft. There is one lock at Preston
Marina. About halfway there is a junction with the Savick Brook, the so-called Ribble Link with nine locks which connects to the Lancaster Canal and via the River Douglas to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. |
