Lydney-Pidcockskanaal |

een 1,8 km langbroad canal
met een sluis die in de getijzone van de Severn
naar Lydney aftakt. Er bestonden oospronkelijk twee kanalen: het in de
1780er jaren gebouwde Pidcockskanaal om de hoogovens aan de rivier
Lyd te voorzien en het 1813 geopende Lydneykanaal. Terwijl
het Pidcockskanaal met zijn drie sluizen al in 1840 door de opkomst
van het spoor overbodig werd, bleef het Lydneykanaal nog tot
1980 open. |

Lydney-Pidcocks-Kanal |
Bezeichnung für den rd. 1,8 km langen broad
canal mit einer Schleuse, der vom Fluß Severn
im Tidegebiet nach Lydney abzweigt. Ursprünglich handelte es sich um zwei
Kanäle: den in den 1780ern entstandenen Pidcocks Canal, der die
Eisenhütten am Fluß Lyd versorgte und den 1813 eröffneten Lydney
Canal. Während Pidcock's Canal mit seinen drei Schleusen
schon 1840 durch den Bau einer Eisenbahn überflüssig wurde, blieb der
Lydney Canal bis 1980 in Betrieb. |

Lydney and Pidcocks Canal |
a 1.1-mile long broad canal with one lock. It
branches off to Lydney from the River Severn.
Originally there were two canals: the Pidcocks Canal built in
the 1780es to serve the iron works on the River Lyd and the Lydney
Canal, opened in 1813. While the Pidcocks Canal with three
locks became obsolete following the construction of a rail line, the Lydney
Canal stayed open until 1980. |
