	zonnewende solstitium		als solstitium (stilstand van de zon) duidt men het tijdstip waarop de zon in de loop van een zonnejaar de grootste noordelijke of zuidelijke declinatie heeft bereikt. Op dit moment draait de zon zijn door de schuine positie van de ecliptica veroorzaakte declinatiebeweging om en nadert wederom de hemelequator. Deze maximale declinatie bereikt de zon twee maal per jaar, ten noorden en ten zuiden van de hemelequator, waarbij men afhankelijk van het halfrond van zomer-zonnewende of winter-zonnewende spreekt. Op dat tijdstip heeft de zon de grootste, resp laagste hoogte tijdens het middaguur over de horizon.
	Sonnenwende Solstitium		Als Solstitium (Stillstand der Sonne) bezeichnet man den Zeitpunkt, zu dem die Sonne im Laufe eines Sonnenjahres die größte nördliche oder südliche Deklination erreicht. In diesem Augenblick kehrt die Sonne ihre durch die Schiefe der Ekliptik bewirkte Deklinationsbewegung um und nähert sich wieder dem Himmelsäquator. Diese maximale Deklination erreicht sie jedes Jahr zweimal: einmal nördlich und einmal südlich des Himmelsäquators; je nach Hemisphäre spricht man dabei jeweils von der Sommer- oder Wintersonnenwende. Zu diesen Zeiten hat sie auch ihre größte bzw. kleinste Mittagshöhe über dem Horizont. Auch Bezeichnung für den Sonnenwendpunkt.
