Oost-Groenlandstroom |
|
zuidwaarts bewegende zeestroming
langs de oostkust van Groenland met lage watertemperaturen en een laag
zoutgehalte. De stroom voert het grootste gedeelte van de Irminger Stroom
met zich mee. Het grootste deel van de stroom zet zich voort door de Denemarken
Straat tussen Ijsland en Groenland. Ondertussen buigt een arm naar het
oosten om een deel van de (tegen de wijzers van de klok in circulerende)
kringloop in de zuidelijke Noorse Zee te vormen. Een ander deel van de
Oost-Groenlandstroom buigt naar rechts rondom de spitse punt van Groenland
en stroomt als West-Groenlandstrroom in de Davis Strait. |

Ostgrönlandstrom |
südwärts gerichtete Meeresströmung
entlang der Ostküste Grönlands mit Wasser niedriger Temperatur und geringen
Salzgehalts. Der Strom führt den größten Teil des Irmingerstroms mit sich.
Der größere Teil des Stroms setzt sich durch die Denmark Strait zwischen
Island und Grönland fort. Indes wendet sich ein Arm nach Osten, um einen
Teil des (gegen den Uhrzeigersinn zirkulierenden) Kreislaufs in der südlichen
Norwegischen See zu bilden. Ein anderer Teil des Ostgrönlandstroms biegt nach
rechts um die Spitze von Grönland und fließt als Westgrönlandstrom
in die Davis Strait. |

East Greenland Current |
an ocean current flowing southward
along the east coast of Greenland carrying water of low salinity and low
temperature. The East Greenland Current is joined by most of the water
of the Irminger Current. The greater part of the current continues through
Denmark Strait between Iceland and Greenland, but one branch turns to
the east and forms a portion of the counterclockwise circulation in the
southern part of the Norwegian Sea. Some of the East Greenland Current
curves to the right around the tip of Greenland, flowing northward into
Davis Strait as the West Greenland Current. The main discharge of the
Arctic Ocean is via the East Greenland Current. |
