Okeechobee-Kanal |
Kanal, der an der Ostküste von Florida bei Stuart
vom Atlantic Intracoastal
Waterway abzweigt und nach 248 km bei Fort Myers an der Westküste
endet. Er besteht aus dem St.-Lucie-Kanal, der von Osten in den
Okeechobee mündet und dem Caloosahatcheefluß, der durch einen Durchstich
mit dem Okeechobeesee verbunden ist und in den Golf
von Mexiko entwässert. |

Okeechobee Waterway |
a man-made waterway stretching from Fort Myers
on the west coast to Stuart on the east coast of Florida where it joins
the Atlantic Intracoastal
Waterway after 154 miles. It consists of the St. Lucie Canal
between the AIWW and Lake Okeechobee, the lake,
and the Caloosahatchee River which is connected to the lake and
runs out into the Gulf of Mexico.
It was finished in 1937 to provide a water route across Florida, allowing
boats to pass east–west across the state rather than travelling the long
route around the southern end of the state. |
