zum Hafen von Catoosa (Tulsa, Oklahoma) reicht, überwinden einen
Höhenunterschied von insgesamt rd. 133 m. |

McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System |
The 445-mile navigation system from the Mississippi
River upstream to the Port of Catoosa, Oklahoma, was completed
in 1970. The channel begins at the confluence of the White
River and the Mississippi River; it continues up the
White River for 10 miles, through the man-made Arkansas
Post Canal for nine miles, and along several hundred miles of
the Arkansas River into Oklahoma, where it terminates at a point
50 miles upstream along the Verdigris River
near Tulsa.
There are 17 locks and dams throughout the system. All are 110 ft wide
by 600 ft long. Other significant structures include 38 bridges, 54 river
terminals, 19 marinas, and 109 recreational facilities. Several million
tons of oil, chemicals, and other products are transported annually on
the river. The navigation system and its multipurpose plan has significantly
benefited society on local and national levels. |
