Karbid Kalziumkarbid |
Industriell (durch Drehofen-Synthese von Koks und Kalciumkarbonat bei 2000°C) erzeugte Verbindung aus Kalzium und Kohlenstoff zu CaC2. Das graue, schotterähnliche Produkte ist in trockenem Zustand an der Luft wenig reaktiv. Es bildet jedoch unter Einfluß von Wasser ein hochexplosives Gas (Azetylen) und ist deshalb mit Wasser nicht zu löschen. Karbid wurde früher insbesondere in Karbidlampen zur Beleuchtung verwandt. Heute dient es vor allem als Zwischenprodukt zur Erzeugung von Azetylen, als Reduktions- und Entschwefelungsmittel in der Stahlindustrie, usw. | ||

However, if brought in contact with water, carbide develops a highly explosive gas (ethyn). Formerly carbide had been widely used for lighting (carbide lamps). Now it is used mainly as a convenient source of acetylene gas or in steel production as a reduction and de-sulphurizing agent. | ||
