internal turret |
configuration of a turret
mooring system in which the turret is mounted inside the hull,
typically in the forward half of the ship, since the turret location significantly
affects the vessel's capability to weathervane. The turret consists of
a large cylindrical structure rotating in a moonpool in the hull of an
FPSO.The
mooring lines attach to the base of the turret below the water surface
avoiding interference with the vessel. The bearings can be placed at the
deck level above the water line where they are readily accessible. However,
the turret may be subjected to higher loads and moments from the mooring
loads. Alternatively the bearings may be located inside the moonpool below
the water surface where the applied moments will be less, but access for
installation and maintenance will be more difficult. |
