nl aardmagnetische pool
magnetische aardpool
en magnetic pole of the earth
earth magnetic pole
geomagnetic pole
either of two antipodal points marking the intersection of the earth's surface with the extended axis of a bar magnet assumed to be located at the center of the earth and approximating the source of the actual magnetic field of the earth. The pole in the northern hemisphere (at about lat. 78.5° N, long. 69°W) is designated north geomagnetic pole, and the pole in the southern hemisphere (at about lat. 78° S, long. 111° E) is designated south. The great circle midway between these poles is called the geomagnetic equator. The geomagnetic pole should not be confused with the earth's magnetic pole.
