51,5 km lang broad canal van Falkirk
naar Edinburgh. Het kanaal ontstond in the jaren 1817-22 en was vooral
bestemd voor het vervoer van kolen naar Edinburgh. Het verbindt Edinburgh
- zonder toegang tot de zeehaven aan het Firth of Forth - met
het Forth and Clyde Canal.
Nadat het verkeer in de 1930er jaren min of meer stopte en vervolgens
in 1965 helemaal ophield, werd het 2002 als deel van de zog. Millenium
Link weer heropend. |

Falkirk nach Edinburgh führt. Der Kanal, der durch Gesetz von 1817 1822
eröffnet wurde und hauptsächlich für den Kohlenverkehr nach Edinburgh
bestimmt war, verbindet Edinburgh, wo er ohne Verbindung zum Seehafen
am Firth of Forth endet, mit dem Forth
and Clyde Canal. Nachdem der Verkehr in den 30er Jahren praktisch
zu erliegen kam, so daß er 1965 ganz geschlossen wurde, wurde er als Teil
des sog. Millenium Link 2002 wiedereröffnet. |

32.1-mile long broad canal from Falkirk
to Edinburgh where it ends without link to the sea port at the Firth
of Forth. The canal, opened in 1822 to serve the coal traffic to
Edinburgh, connects the latter to the Firth and Clyde Canal.
In the 1930es commercial traffic ceased and the canal was closed 1965.
2002 it was reopened as part of the Millenium Link. |
