Birmingham-Fazeleykanaal | 33 km lang kanaal in het systeem
van de Birmingham Canal
Navigations (BCN) in de Engelse West-Midlands. Het kanaal met
36 sluizen werd in de jaren 1784-1789 ingericht om Birmingham aan het
Coventrykanaal en op die manier
via het Oxfordkanaal Birmingham
met London te verbinden. Het kanaal loopt vanuit Oozells Loop ofwel Old
Turn Junction in het centrum van Birmingham, waar de BCN
Main Line en het Worcester-en-Birminghamkanaal
aansluit, tot Fazeley Junction buiten Tamworth, en het Coventrykanaal.
Het omvat de B&FC-Main Line: een 24 km lang narrow canal met 38 sluizen voor afmetingen tot 21,9m x 2,13m. Het kanaal loopt van de Farmer's Bridge Junction in de stad Birmingham en de inmonding van de BCN Newhall Branch naar Fazeley Junction, waar het in het Coventrykanaal uitmondt. Een tweede route leidt door het B&FC-along route of Coventry Canal: een 8,8 km lang narrow canal zonder sluizen, die van Fazeley Junction naar Whittington Brook en de inmonding in het Coventry Canal - Detached Portion loopt. B&FC-Digbeth Branch: een 2,3 km lang narrow canal, dat als zijkanaal bij Aston Junction van het B&FC-Main Line afgaat. Het kanaal heeft 6 sluizen en eindigt in het Bordesley Basin. Bij Aston Junction bestaat een aansluiting aan het Grand Union Canal (Main Line). |

zu verbinden. Der Kanal beginnt beim Oozells Loop (Old Turn Junction)
im Zentrum von Birmingham, wo die BCN
Main Line und der Worcester
and Birmingham Canal anschließen; er endet bei der Fazeley Junction
außerhalb Tamworth, wo er auf den Coventry-Kanal stößt. Der Kanal
umfaßt B&FC-Main Line: ein 24 km langer narrow canal mit 38 Schleusen für Fahrzeuge bis 21,9m x 2,13m. Er beginnt in Birmingham bei der Farmer's Bridge Junction und der Einmüdung der BCN Newhall Branch und mündet bei der Fazeley Junction in den Coventry-Kanal ein. Hier beginnt auch der B&FC-along route of Coventry Canal: 8,8 km langer narrow canal ohne Schleusen, der von Fazeley Junction nach Whittington Brook (Einmündung in den Coventry-Kanal Detached Portion) führt. B&FC-Digbeth Branch: 2,3 km langer narrow canal, der als Stichkanal bei Aston Junction vom B&FC-Main Line abzweigt und nach 6 Schleusen im Bordesley Basin endet. Etwa auf halber Strecke besteht bei Bordesley Junction Anschluß an den Grand Union Canal (Main Line). |

Birmingham and Fazeley Canal | The Birmingham and Fazeley Canal is
part of the Birmingham
Canal Navigations (BCN)
and is made up of the BCN Birmingham and Fazeley Canal - Main Line,
the BCN Birmingham and Fazeley Canal - along route of Coventry Canal
and the BCN Birmingham and Fazeley Canal - Digbeth Branch in
the West Midlands of England. Its purpose was to provide a link between
the Coventry Canal and Birmingham
and thereby connect Birmingham to London via the Oxford
Canal. The Canal is 20.5 miles long with 36 locks, some of them
flights of locks. The canal runs from Oozells Loop (Old Turn Junction)
in the center of Birmingham where it connects to the BCN
Main Line and the Worcester
and Birmingham Canal, to Fazeley Junction outside Tamworth, where
it connects to the Coventry Canal. The B&F Canal consists of B&FC Main Line: a narrow canal that runs for 15 miles through 38 locks from Fazeley Junction (where it joins the Coventry Canal (Main Line - Hawkesbury to Fazeley) and the B&FC - along route of Coventry Canal) to Farmer's Bridge Junction (where it joins the BCN - Newhall Branch). B&FC - along route of Coventry Canal: a narrow canal that runs for 5.5 miles from Fazeley Junction (where it joins the Coventry Canal (Main Line - Hawkesbury to Fazeley) and the B&FC - Main Line) to Whittington Brook (where it joins the Coventry Canal (Detached Portion)). B&FC - Digbeth Branch: a narrow canal that runs for 1.4 miles through 6 locks from Aston Junction (where it joins the B&FC - Main Line) to Bordesley Basin (which is a dead end). |
