Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal | 21.8-mile-long canal built in 1794-1804 to connect the coal fields of Moira to the Coventry Canal. The canal was originally 14 km longer, but subsidence, caused by mines detonating during the World War, led to the closing of the upper section. At present the canal ends 3/4-mile north of the hamlet of Snarestone; in the south it runs into the Coventry Canal at Marston Junction outside of Bedworth in Warwickshire.
